Chose this hotel based on TripAdvisor reviews (the only way I travel) and wasn't disappointed. It was even better than I expected. We came from the Gold Coast for a couple of nights in June and loved the remoteness, cold weather and friendly hospitality. The staff were super helpful, friendly and professional (something lacking on the GC! ). Our executive, oceanfront, 2 bedroom apartment was super clean (a BIG issue for me), well designed with every amenity we needed, it was very spacious, luxurious accommodation. But importantly, the best breakfast buffet we have ever had (and we have had a few in Australia and in Bali). I am used to driving long distances, and never felt tired or sleepy at the wheel, even on the long days. On top of the driving, we also averaged 20, 000 steps a day, with a few big hikes which helped as breaks from the driving. We only had a 2WD car, which we were slightly worried about given the potential for snow etc, but it was significantly cheaper. We didn't have too much trouble – the 1 Road was clear the whole way, with a few icy patches, but generally easily passable. I kept an eye on the weather and road websites, and we were lucky enough not to be too disrupted by closures etc. A 4WD would have been nice in trying to get to different spots, but the 2WD could handle it, and we only actually had to turn around once because the snow was too deep quite far out on the Snaefellsjokull peninsula. I have quite a few friends who have been for similar amounts of time and stuck to Reykjavik and the South coast. My observation is that while they had a great time, their experiences sounded a lot more touristy and those friends mostly feel they have to go back because they missed out on some of the best parts of the country.

Universal / Harry Potter World: It's my understanding that Universal / Harry Potter world has made modifications in recent years to accommodate more riders of size. I was paranoid all day long but it all worked out in my favor. Gringotts: the seat is strange - kind of a pit that your butt should sink down into but doesn't really work out if you have extra weight. The restraint is a lap bar. It almost clicked into place with minimal effort on my part but the attendant did tell me I had to get it down a little further without her assistance. I panicked because I couldn't get it on my own. My boyfriend was able to pull a little on one side while I did the other and it was fine. It was not painfully tight but also not the most comfortable experience. I was relieved to have fit and loved the ride. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey - the restraint is overhead like a typical rollercoaster. I had no issues with this ride. There are seats out front if you're worried. No one seemed to pay attention as I tried them out and there is a red light / green light system to let you know if you're good.
