Reviewed January 28, 2020 via mobile After a wonderful lunch, on the way out we asked what the bar's name meant and we were told by the host, "Land of the Youth. " It's an Irish myth that tells the story of a young warrior who pursues and marries a fair maiden... and they live happily ever after for 300 years! I assume they lived that long because they ate the food served in this bar --- things such as Fish and Chips, Shepherd's Pie and Corned Beef. Located just across from the 31st street and 8th avenue entrance to Penn Station, Tir na Nog is the perfect place to meet friends who are arriving from out-of-town. From the old wooden doors to the beautiful, long mirrored bar, this is one cool spot (see photo). The casual food served here is very good. You can go all the way from Caesar Salad to Bangers and Mash. We stayed middle of the road with Wild Mushroom Flatbread and Chicken Milanese.
It was about 7pm on a Friday and they were able to seat us right away... in a room basically all to ourselves! The ambiance was very pretty with a gorgeous fireplace (a little warm for me, but that's the only complaint). The food was amazing! I had the fish and chips which was fantastic. Our group loved that the kids menu was only $10 and served children 14 and younger. The large portions were perfect for our group and kept the price down. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
